What is a Retrofit Assessment?

Get in Touch

If you are looking to make your property more energy efficient, our trained Retrofit assessors are on hand to ensure PAS 2035 compliance. Any Retrofit assessment is an in-depth look at the energy situation of a property and is more precise than the overall picture produced with an EPC.

The assessment will analyse the actual energy usage and look at floor plans and areas of heat loss within a property. This then allows an assessor to look at ways that improvements can be made. Our assessors will be able to offer expert guidance and advice on how to reduce fuel bills and your carbon footprint.

From July 2021 anybody who wants to take advantage of government grants for energy upgrades to their home will have to do this using the framework dictated by the new PAS 2035 legislation. This means that a qualified Retrofit assessor will need to oversee the project. We are qualified PAS 2035 Retrofit Assessors and are TrustMark registered.

What do we do in a Retrofit Assessment?

During a Retrofit Assessment, we will complete a detailed survey of your property, across three criteria:

    • Occupancy assessment
    • Energy assessment
    • Condition assessment

This will look at the layout and floorplan, existing heating and hot water provision and controls, construction details, and any underlying problems. We will look at how you use the property, including heating patterns, ventilation, and energy bills to establish how you can best make energy improvements.

PAS 2035 states the residential retrofit procedure must meet the standard’s requirements, and this assessment is the first step in the procedure and serves as the foundation for any retrofit designer’s work. The report will allow a Medium Term Improvement Plan to be outlined. We can offer you complete peace of mind at every stage.

What is Retrofitting?

This is the act of fitting new systems designed for high energy efficiency and low energy consumption in buildings that have already been constructed.

This can include small actions like fitting LED light bulbs through to installing newer and more energy-efficient heating systems, as well as more insulation.

Many people believe that this is just available for domestic properties, but this is not the case. The government completed an ‘every home counts’ review, and the result was PAS 2035.

This ensures that any work meets required standards. It covers various best practice guidelines, including the modelling and installation of Air Source Heat Pumps. It considers home, environment, occupancy, and householder improvement objectives.
